Art historian and curator Catherine Hess is pleased to offer a tour of “Magdalena Suarez Frimkess: The Finest Disregard”, the artist’s first-ever museum survey. Born in Venezuela and active for many years in Los Angeles, the artist also happens to be 95 years old. She works primarily in clay, making pictorial sculptures, tiles, and vessels with images taken from popular media, cartoons, and elements of everyday life. Curator José Luis Blondet calls her “an artist’s artist” and Michael Govan, director of LACMA, asserts that she “commands her own narrative” with work that inspires artists to “push against the grain, beyond boundaries.”

This program is presented in partnership with our friends at Women of Culture.
